The Kaiweets KGP01 pinpointer review
When a very nice lady called Jane from Kaiweets contacted me again to see if I wanted to review a new product for them, I jumped at the chance.
Jane has previously contacted me a while back to review their budget, full sized metal detector, the KGM01 which has been very popular with people wishing to try metal detecting on a budget. You can find the Kaiweets KGM01 review here.
Jane explained that on the success of the KGM01, they have ventured into pairing the full sized machine with a matching handheld pinpointer called the KGP01 which I was eager to test out.
A metal detecting pinpointer, amongst other items is an essential additional piece of kit that allows you to easily find targets that may be hidden in a clod of grass and soil or in the side wall of a hole.
I won’t fully go into what a pinpointer exactly is or the benefits as I have written a separate article that fully explains this. You can find my article on What a Pinpointer is here.
As I agreed with Jane previously when I reviewed the KGM01, I wouldn’t hold back and would review the KGP01 honestly. I couldn’t wait to test this piece of kit which retails at a competitive sub £40 pricepoint.
I have also secured with Jane an additional 15% off if you visit the Kaiweets website directly and use my discount code DMD15 at the checkout.

What’s in the box?
So, unboxing the Kaiweets KGP01 pinpointer was satisfying in itself! It was packaged well in a very robust cardboard box which had all of the main features printed clearly on the outside.
Inside the box contains the KGP01 unit, a 9v battery, a belt attached holster and finally an expandable lanyard attachment to prevent you from accidentally leaving the KGP01 behind when digging.
The box also contains a full user manual explaining the functions more fully. The KGP01 feels very nice when handled.
It’s very ergonomic, very tactile and feels really robust for it’s pricepoint of under £40.
The inclusion of the clipped lanyard and the 9v battery is a nice touch and proves that Kaiweets listen to feedback from customers.
It’s only a small thing admittedly but it means you are good to go straight away without the faff of having get these items separately.
The KGP01 sits really nicely in the handy belt holster. It’s nice and snug but not too tight which can be a pain when you need to access it frequently.
It benefits from having a robust Velcro connection and also a metal popper to prevent it working loose.
Inserting the 9v battery was a breeze. The KGP01 battery holder detaches with a satisfying quarter turn which is nice.
The battery slides in easily but make note to ensure the battery terminals are the correct way around.
The holder top then twists back on with a quarter turn when the locating lugs are lined up.
When fully on, the top compresses against a rubber gasket which gives it an IP68 waterproof rating.
The rating of IP68 means it can be submerged under water up to 1.5 metres deep for up to 30 minutes duration.
Robust enough for even the most demanding of metal detecting outings.
KGP01 Features
For its sub £40 pricepoint, the KGP01 has some great features. These include two adjustable sensitivities, three detection modes, an IP68 fully waterproof rating, an LED light, an inactive alarm and an Auto Shut Off.
Sensitivity modes
As with main metal detectors, being able to adjust the sensitivity is a great feature.
If you have the sensitivity on full, precisely pinpointing some close targets can be difficult, depending on its size, orientation in the ground or proximity to other targets being nearby.
Being able to back down the sensitivity allows you fine tune the location of your target, especially if it’s small.
This can pay dividends when you don’t want to damage a potentially precious find.
The KGP01 has a “Normal” setting and a “High” setting. These modes are depicted on the display screen as “H” or “N”.
Detection modes
The KGP01 comes with three detection modes. With a single button push, you can toggle between having audio only, vibration only or having audio and vibration working together.
LED light
The LED light has a couple of functions. When using the KGP01 and you approach a target, the LED light will flash/pulsate in conjunction with the audio/vibration as an extra indicator that you are nearing a target.
In low light conditions, when the KG01 is switched on, a single short press of the power button will turn on the LED light fully until another short press will then turn it off.
Auto shut down
The KGP01 also has an automatic shut down and inactive alarm feature. This ensures that you never accidentally drain your battery.
When the KGP01 is switched on, if no activity or targets are detected after 10 minutes, it will activate an alarm. If it’s not powered down after 5 minutes of the alarm, a complete shut down is activated.
Operation
The LCD display screen is bright, uncluttered and gives you all the information you need at a glance. As can be seen in the photo, it shows the signal indicator bars depending on the proximity to the target.
It also shows the battery strength, the sensitivity setting (High or Normal), the vibration mode icon and the audio mode icon.
Turning on the KGP01 is done by a long, 3 second press on the power button.
You will then be greeted with some audio beeps, a flashing LED and a lit display screen as it initialises and calibrates itself.
Once switched on, a single short press of the rubber button with the cog icon will toggle you through the audio and vibration modes.
Using the same cog button, a longer press will toggle you between the high and normal sensitivity settings.
We will test both of these settings on some targets now!
Target testing & performance
Let’s test the KGP01 on some targets I have in one of my finds boxes. We’ll pick some items of varying sizes and also of varying metals.
Target 1 – 1787 Gold full guinnea
I first chose my 1787 gold full spade guinnea. The KGP01 detected this target on high sensitivity at 65mm which was really impressive!
On normal sensitivity, it was detected at 48mm which was still also very impressive.
Target 2 – 1872 Victoria silver sixpence
The second target was an early Victorian silver sixpence. The KGP01 detected this at 45mm on normal sensitivity. It then detected it at 60mm on high sensitivity.
Target 3 – 1834 William IV Maundy 1 1/2 pence
I chose this target because it’s one of the smallest full coins I’ve ever found.
It does have a hole in it which means it was worn at some stage of its life and technically turns it into an artefact.
On high sensitivity, the KGP01 detected this tiny silver coin at 42mm. On normal sensitivity, it was still detected at 26mm.
I have to emphasise here, this coin is really tiny!!…I’m really impressed.
Target 4 – King John silver hammered penny
You always have to test a hammered coin don’t you! The King John penny was detected by the KGP01 at 34mm on normal sensitivity. On high sensitivity, it was detected at 48mm.
This pinpointer is really impressing me at this point!
Target 5 – George IV 1820 silver half crown
Let’s test something bigger!
This coin was detected at an impressive 75mm on high sensitivity and 57mm on normal sensitivity.
Kaiweets KGP01 conclusion
I’m going to try and stay objective here but from the tests I’ve carried out on this pinpinter, I’m really impressed…..and I mean, REALLY impressed.
Do not let the sub £40 price point make you think that this piece of kit can’t be that great because you’d be wrong. So much so, Jane has said that I could keep the KGP01 if I wanted to after the review.
I won’t tell you which pinpointer I was using but it’s now getting swapped for this one! I cannot recommend this pinpointer enough….you won’t be disappointed.
I can’t believe that Jane has also agreed to the discount code via the Kaiweets checkout and the Promo code via Amazon making it even more competitive.
If you are in the market and looking for a pinpointer to add to your kit, seriously consider the KGP01. Don’t forget, if you go directly to Kaiweets, use my discount code DMD15 for an extra 15% off.
